GREENWALD--Edward, 89 years old, longtime resident of Huntington, died November 5, 1998, in Delray Beach, Fla. He was a WWII veteran, serving as a U.S. Army Tech. Sergeant with the 109th Infantry Company of the 2th Division. During his 3 years
of Service he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star Medals. Edward came to Huntington as a child when his father, Henry Greenwald, opened Greenwald's General Store in 1917. In 1945, when Henry died, it became Greenwald's Sporting Goods
Store operated by his wo sons, Edward and Arthur. Frequent customers were Peresiden Theodore Roosevelt and son, Archie, J.P. Morgan, Marshall Field, Alexander Baruch (brother of Bernard Baruch), Mayor Lindsay, and Henry Fonda and Walter Matthau
during their summer stays in Lloyd Harbor. Edward was a member of the Huntington Jewish Center since 1945. Charter Member of the Knights of Pythias for 57 years. Member of the Huntington Lions Club for over 30 years. Member of the Friends of
the Huntington Library. Volunteer for the Huntington Historical Society and the Burrwood Industrial Home for the Blind. Edward is survived by his wife, Sophie, of 57 years; his daughters, Diane Christie of Merrick, Nancy Heinze of Jackson
Heights; brother, Arthur of Sebring, Fla. and grandchildren, Todd of San Diego, Calif., Jonathan of Atlanta, Ga. and Jennifer of Merrick. A Memorial Service was held in Delray Beach, Fla. Donations may be made in Edward's memory to the charity
of your choice.
