Pittman, Thomas Grimaldi Jr. (b. 11 MAR 1921, d. 6 APR 1982)

Note: Thomas G. Pittman was born in Richmond, Va. at 1610 Grace St., at home with Dr. John M.G.Ryland attending. His father had been back from WWI for several years and worked for Sydnor Pump and Well as an engineer. His mother had borne 3 children
before him....two were still living and one, Elizabeth was living with them when Thomas was born. Dad lost his mother at around the age of 11 and then his father and youngest brother while he was away during WWII. He spend very early childhood

was in demolition and salvage during WWII. He was a Waren Officer when he retired. My parents separated late in life. Dad didn't talk much about his parents except that his mother read alot. He was close to Elizabeth Sterling, his half
sister and rarely saw his brother John (called Jack) Lee who lived most of his life in Mississippi. He and my mother had six children, two boys and four girls (twin girls). My oldest brother is named Thomas Grimaldi and his oldest son the

Bachert, Regina Genevive (b. --Not Shown--)
Note: Regina Genevive Bachert Pittman was and still is, a very active and involved woman. As a child, she was athletic and energetic...the first one up in the morning and usually, the last to bed. The third of six children, she was musically
inclined and very active in school. She has wonderful memories of her parents and feels her upbringing was one of the pillars of strength she has relied on during her life. She married our father at 20 years old after meeting him on vacation
at Virginia Beach. They married in her parent's home in South Greensburg, PA. and settled in Jacksonville, Florida. If their wedding picture was any evidence...they were an extremely handsome couple. There the first and second of her six
children were born. They briefly lived with Thomas G, Jr.'s Aunt Celeste in Crittendon, Va. after moving to Virginia and settle, permanently, in Portsmouth, Va. All but the last of their children were born in Portsmouth.
Note: My mother has mentioned several things in her life that have been important to her: First, her children and family life. She says of her children...."they are all decent and reliable people in the community....and have accomplished what they
wanted to do";she is very proud of the fact she has life-long friends;and lastly, her music and general love of people and entertaining, (she sang with the Norfolk Symphony in a choir chosen from all over Tidewater in 1989).
Note: Regina lives in the family home in Portsmouth, Va.; enjoys travel, reading, singing in the Holy Angels Church choir; and babysitting her newest grandchild, Conner.

Pittman, Willow Marie (b. --Not Shown--)
Note: I am the second oldest in a family of six children. I am named after my mother and her mother. My nickname is Willow. As to my life and what has been important to me......first of all--my children( I am extremely proud of my two sons, Ian
and Thaen and my daughter, Donna). The , exploration of the world around me has been a focal point. I have worked in a lot of different capacities: teacher, couselor, landscaper, writer, and more. I own a small seafood restaurant on an
island off the coast of North Carolina and live and work there for most of the year.I am a Watsu therapist and plan to set up a practice in 1999. I really love the ocean and being in/on the water.
Note: I have traveled and lived for short periods in exotic places. I consider myself intelligent--a sort of perpetual student; generous; curious and open to new experiences.

Pittman, Celeste Gale (b. --Not Shown--)
Note: Celeste Gale was named after two women on my father's side of the family: Thomas G. Pittman, Sr.'s second wife, Nellie Gale (she and her family were well known in Nansemond County where our father grew up) and Aunt Celeste Goodwin Nelms
Pittman with whom Tommy, my parents and I lived with in Crittendon, the first few years we moved to Tidewater, Va. from Florida. Celeste is the third of six children and when she was born, she was soooo cute that after a couple of weeks I
distinctly remember saying "You can take her back to the hospital now". As a child Celeste was a little imp; mischevious and a really delightful personality. Like her uncle Peter Edward...everyone loved her. Steven Galford was a childhood
friend who grew up across the street from our home....he would knock on the door and ask if "Lettuce" could come out and play. Celeste was very popular in school and had many friends (as she still does!). She married young and Ambur Teak (she
is a beauty, too) was born. Celeste has made her living most of her life in office management and human resources. Alexia Elizabeth, her second daughter, just recently graduated from a Army Nationsl Guard program that will finance her medical
education. Celeste's husband, Robert Wm. Parks and she live in Chesapeake, VA.
Occupation: office manager

Pittman, Alise Elizabeth (b. --Not Shown--)
Note: Alise Elizabeth is the "oldest", by 30 minutes, of twins born 4th in the birth order to Regina and Thomas Pittman. "LIse", as she is known by her family and friends, was born on January 2, 1959, at about a quarter of midnight. Her twin,
Alexia, was slightly smaller and was born a quarter past midnight --making her birthday different from Lise's.
Note: Alise has shown leadership skills from birth. She has a degree in business from Old Dominion University, Norfolk. She was an outgoing and animated child, two qualities she has developed further as an adult. Very talented and known for her
intelligence, Alise owns a catering/takeout restaurant. (Peter's original restaurant) in Ghent
Note: . Alise was named after two women in my father's family, Alise Collier Pittman--her paternal grandmother, and Elizabeth--her father's half-sister, Elizabeth Sterling Scott. She lives and works in the neighborhood of Ghent, Norfolk, Va.
Occupation: restauranteur

Pittman, Alexia Carol (b. --Not Shown--)
Note: Alexia Carol is named after our mother's sister, Carol Ann.
Note: She recently became a mother with the birth in 1997, of Robert Conner Pittman; he is a wonderful achievement and the "apple of the family's eye". "Lex" was a thoughtful and energetic child'--quick to see what was going on. She had a little
crooked smile that the memory of it still makes me smile 40 some years later. The baby pictures of her and her sister, Alise, were among the most attractive I have ever seen (ok...ok...so I'm a little prejudice!). Blonde and blue-eyed, they
captivated/fascinated everyone around them. When their younger brother Peter was born, everyone thought we had triplets in the family as they looked so much alike. Since she and Alise were identical twins, they used to play the usual
"switcheroo" tricks at school and on people who didn't know them well. In later life they participate in a twin study at Rockerfeller Medical Center in New York City.
Note: Alexia has a degree from Old Dominion University, Norfolk, in Special Education and has worked in various capacities in that field. She is wonderfully dedicated to her clients and her son. At present she is employed by the city of Virginia
Beach and also resides there.
Occupation: Certified "Clinician" for Mentally Disabled Va.Bch., Va.

Pittman, Peter Robert (b. --Not Shown--)
Note: Peter Robert had a grin that would attract people from across the road to come over and say what a sweet- looking baby he was...he grinned alot. Pete had respitory problems growing up and would occasionally have serious bouts with asthma.
Peter was a "finder" of all kinds of things at an early age. He was always bringing home a collection of odd and assorted junk ( as an adult he has fine collections of glass; objects d'art; and memorabilia.....I guess some life interests
show up early.) The rest of the family would say, "Pete...where'd you find that?"...His stock answer was "in the field". We lived next to a high school with large open areas around it. Didn't matter what it was...."I found it in the field".
Note: Peter showed an early aptitude for art and music....He has a wonderful appreciation for the fine and unusual things in life and is an accomplished musician. He is generous and people describe him as "larger than life" in his way of being.
Peter is also a restauranteur with a well-known reputation as a chef and culinary innovator--- and he did it the hard way.....apprenticing to good kitchens and working his way up to a small restaraunt, "Pete's Ten Top", off Colley Ave. in
Norfolk-- then on to larger projects. His wife, Chris, is his partner.
Note: Peter lives and works in Ghent....Norfolk, VA.
Occupation: Restauranteur
