Pittman, Robert Collier (b. --Not Shown--)
Note: Collier was born at home and delivered by a midwife named Mary L. Dean. Not much has been discovered about his short life.
Note: Collier died in his early 20's from a disease. The family legend has it that my grandmother, Alise Collier, was a Christian Scientist and Collier probably was not treated early enough to save his life due to her religious beliefs.

Grimaldi, Thomas Faithful (b. 19 FEB 1819, d. 8 MAY 1880)
Note: Thomas F.Grimaldi migrated to the US in 1847 and became a citizen of the US on Nov. 14, 1851 certificated by the circuit court of Lynchburg, Va. He was sponsored by J. Newton Gordon and Henry Dunnington of that city. The US 1850 census lists
him living with his employees: Henry Hirsham of Penn.; Wm. I.Long of Lynchburg; James Wrenn of Ireland;
Note: Charles Shaver of Germany. He stood as citizenship sponsor for several Europeans during the 1850's according to city records. The 1860 US census found him married to Sarah Va. Ley,age 21. He has three small children: "Sallie"Walden, age 4;
Cora J.,age 1; and a newborn Elizabeth P. (who died and was buried in Lychburg in 1869).
Note: Also living with the family was Thomas F.'s aging father Thomas (no middle intitial found).Who came to live with them, a retired ship carpenter, in his late 70's and lived to be almost 100 years old. Employees still lived in the household: Wm
H. Carryton; Wm Vaughn and Ed Moore of Ireland worked as shoemakers for Thomas F. By the looks of the census the Grimaldi's lived in a mostly European neighborhood. .Duiguid Funeral Home has listed in their records the burial of a child on
7-3-1858; records have not been found with the child's name. Stillborns were buried nameless many times in those days.
Note: The 1870 US census brough more children and no employees residing with the Grimaldi's. Sallie Walden was 14; Cora J. was 11; Ferdie D. their first son, was born in Dec.of 1863; Nannie W. was 4; and a baby--named for the second time since the
first Katie died in 1863--Katie L. was 1 year old. The 1880 Va. census was destroyed by fire. Thomas F. Grimaldi died that year in Lynchburg, although the obituaries noted he had been living in Knoxville, Tenn. for many years and was
visiting (probably his brother in law James Ley) when death occurred. He was 60 years of age. It said he was "a shoemaker by trade and was a man of many good qualities, well thought of by all with whom he came in contact."( Lynchburg Daily
News, May 8, 1880).
